New Fish Finder For Kayak

Featured Replies

I'm looking to get a new fish finder... for around 170 or less.. looking for some for finding structure change cover like brush piles.. any come.to mind..? I really only have a dicks buy me and a gander mountain but they didn't have a lot of options.

I have a Lowrance Elite 4x-DSI on my kayak.  Has the down scan imaging which produces really accurate images of what is below the kayak such as brush and structure.  Works fine for what I use it for.

out of curiosity, how do you plan on mounting that fishfinder and what type of kayak do you have?  i just installed a garmin echo 150 on my Ascend FS10.  I used Duct Seal to "mount" the transducer behind my seat and it worked VERY well.

Well mine came with a mounting kit do pretty much drill where you want it and screw it on its going right in front. Of me there's a space that is going to work great.. and in not sure what kind of mount it.is... also does anyone have the piranah 176i it says it comes with a 6' power cable but I can't find it.. there's only a little. 1 ' long cord which obviously not do the job

I put it in the front hull... in front of my feet I had a flat surface there.. but I'm returning my fish finder tomorrow the hummingbird 176i kayak its a piece of crap DO NoT BUY

I have mounted my Lowrance Elite-5x on my Jackson Cuda Yellow Jacket kayak.

I considered a shoot through hull mount, but after evaluating a scupper hole mount it was apparent to me that a scupper hole mount would be more sensitive because the transducer is actually in the water.  Also, the scupper hole provides adequate protection for the transducer because the scupper hole provides a recess for the transducer as shown:

I chose a scupper hole under my seat so as to eliminate any activity that could damage the mounting location.  Equally important was the location under the seat had to be suitable in either the high or low seat position:

Finally, I evaluated were to mount the actual unit; I did not like the possibility of having to reach or stretch, straighten, or extend my body, especially my arms to their full length to operate the unit; so, I decided to put the unit in a position that was out of the way while paddling my kayak and while I was actively engaged in retrieving and managing a fish.

Hope this provides you with at least a few ideas!
