Apps For The Smart Phone

Featured Replies

I just got me my first smart phone.  Not really sure why.  My flip phone was doing just fine.

Anyway what are some useful or fun apps to have for this thing?

Sorry it's a droid.

What brand of smart phone, iPhone or Droid??

IMHO, I find the following useful:

Google Earth

Animated Knots

GPS Tracks

BoatUS Towing Service

SolarCalc

Navionics Mobile

I've played with others, but found these the most useful.

As for everyday apps, my most used are things like Pandora, Bank Of America (whatever your bank is if they offer an app,), weather of your choice, google maps/navigation, sports apps (NHL, NFL, ESPN, etc) and Gas Buddy (Finds the cheapest gas around you.)

As for games, my favorite so far is Block Puzzle and Unblock me

WAZE

Get the free WAZE app as it is one of the best traffic apps available.

Saved me many times.

You and other WAZE'ers can share highway information; know where the police are; note accidents; see the backups before you get to them; note any road hazards and vehicles on the side of the road; and be a safer and more efficient driver.

Also check out MyRadar. Excellent weather radar app.

Use it all the time and when fishing.

I like

Rainy Days for checking on storms

NOAA Weather+

My Fishing Companion

River Flows

weather channel

navionics

google maps

gas buddy

google chrome (browser not an app, but worth downloading)

Those are the ones I find myself using the most. Oh and youtube app for viewing glenn's videos.

Good ones above.

Boat Browser instead of the built in (supports Flash)

TuneIn radio app

Flashlight zaphrox (lights the flash on the camera up on constant for a bright flashlight, I use this one a LOT)

Patience Revisited (lots of free card games)

ES File Explorer

Shazam (for identifying song title/artist very quickly)

GPS Speedometer

Juice Defender (extends battery life between charges)

Also check out the various "launchers". These are programs that overlay your home screens. So instead of being stuck with the 4x4 icons on the home pages, you can choose 4x5, 5x5, etc. And add addtional icons to the bar at the bottom, tell it to let your home pages rotate with the screen orientation, etc. I use Go Launcher and Nova. Not much difference between them in the end but I prefer Nova for whatever reason.
