This is my first year targeting bass and really fishing in general, and ive been using texas rigged plastic almost all the time. (mostly because its simple, and cheap). I own 2 spinner baits and one small jig but never had luck on them, I dont have anything else really. I know every fisherman should extend their boundries and include multiple bait types so I was wondering if you guys can recommend some good spinnerbaits, jigs, hard plastic, other soft plastic baits that are great to start off on. I just want to get comfortable with other techniques. Ohh and BTW I dont have a boat, I only bank fish.

Get some super flukes. Watermelon magic or wat/ red. Texas rigged but no weight. I use a 4/0 or 5/0 hook to give weight. If you have big fish in the area, use a magnum fluke. Same colors. 6/0 hook.

Crankbaits that run an appropriate depth and topwaters are musts for me.

This and I would recommend getting white/pearl as well.

I've read some of your other posts about fishing a river. I would also recommend some curly tailed grubs again in white or chartreuse and some black or red ball jig heads. Also tubes 3.5 gizits in green. I like to insert a bell weight in the head and t-rig with a 1/0 worm hook and drag or hop along the bottom.

A white spinnerbait with one willow and one colorado blade is a must have. 

Also take a look at lipless cranks like the rat-l-trap in black chrome and firetiger. 

Even bank fishing you can use the same techniques and baits as if you are in a boat.

Senkos wacky rigged

 

Throw in a "fan" pattern from the left to the right and then back and do it again.

The Texas and the Carolina are my goto, Lately I have stepped out of the comfort zone and started to improve on the deep dive crank.  I bank fished for many years (couldnt afford a boat) and had lots of luck with little rattle traps and top waters and anything that floated.  Now that I have a boat the game has definitely changed, but still like to run the bank lines using my old trusties.

Get some senko senkos. T-rig them weight less or with a weight also wacky rig them. Wacky rigging a senko is simple but very effective. I caught my largest bass throwing a 5" watermelon with black flake wacky rigged. Watch out for the elusive bait monkey. If he gets you you've had it! Good luck and have fun!
