Which Cranking Rod: Powell Diesel Or Daiwa Ballistic?

Featured Replies

I am looking to get a dedicated cranking rod and I am unsure which to get.  I have narrowed it down to a Daiwa Ballistic or a Powell Diesel.  With the Daiwa on sale they are both about the same price ($70ish).  I would appreciate some input on the rods or if there are others in my price range that are good alternatives.

Chris

I havent fished either but if the price is the same and both have good actions, Id pick the daiwa based on a 5yr warranty vs no warranty....Im not sure what the replacement cost is if any but that would be a factor for me

I just got a Powell Diesell Glass crank rod and it is awesome.

I think that you can get the Diesel from the fishranger for $50.

I have the Daiwa ( and gladly paid the $70), for the price it has unbelievable quality. I would pick that for sure.

don't have the cranking model but daiwa is a great rod

I have the Diesel and am very happy with it. It is light around 4.5 oz. has a good backbone and a slower action good for treble hook lures. I personally can not cast lures in the 1/4 oz. range very well with it but 3/8 oz.+ I can cast fine.

Based on the responses it doesn't look like you can make a bad choice.
