Muzzy, remember that there are standards in fishing tackle so one 3/0 can be longer or shorter than another company's 3/0.

You need to decide if a "heavy" extra wide gap 3/0 would suffice or do you need to go lighter?

Take your bait and the hooks you are considering and place the hooks next to the body of the bait. You can see where the hook needs to enter the rear of the bait and if it is a good fit.

If so, go with it.  If not, go with a smaller or larger hook.

I would think the 3/0 would be acceptable but it is up to you to decide what hook will give you the most hook setting power with the bait in question.

Oops!  There are NO standards in fishing tackle. Made a typo.

Got to start proof reading again!!!!!

Remember, one company's 3/0 can be larger or smaller than another company's 3/0, etc.

  • sam is correct, i have found some 4.25 inch craws where the 3/0 is longer than the body so even though I dont like it, it does call for smaller hooks to fit the body..
