Buzzbaits: Silicone Or Bucktail Skirts?

Featured Replies

Would a skirt for a buzzbait being made out of bucktail instead of silicone make any difference?

GOK, which means God Only Knows.

I would not think the skirt material would make that much of a difference on a buzzbait unless it makes the bait run sideways or upside down.

Give it a shot and let us know what happens.

Someone (Joe Bucher?) makes a musky buzzbait with a bucktail skirt.

I don't see why it wouldn't work for bass just as well.

yeap it works on spinnerbaits and buzzbaits and very excellent on chatterbaits.the way a feather swims back and forth on a chatterbait is great

Thanks for the replies.  I didn't think it would matter much on a buzzbait since it is fished with a constant retrieve.  I could see how it would make a difference on a jig or spinnerbait.

you dont have to fish a buzzbait with a constant retrieve :D

I know you don't HAVE TO fish a buzzbait with a constant retrieve, but as compared to a jig or spinnerbait, I would say that most people over 95% of the time fish a buzzbait with a constant retrieve.  I guess the point I was trying to make is that the fluttering "action" that you get when you stop and go fish a spinnerbait or a jig with a silicone skirt is really not a factor with a normally constant moving buzzbait.
