1976 Johnson Seahors 15 Horsepower Keeps Dying

Featured Replies

This is a video of my motor that dies after about 30 seconds...should more water be coming out of the top hole that I point my finger to at the end of the video?  I hope this is only an impeller issue but am looking for feedback please...thanks!

That hole is an exhaust port. Some water come out of it when the prop is submerged but on a hose the water runs out the prop. Those motors don't have a tell tale that squirts water to let you know the pump is working.

Judging by the way it ran I would guess your problem is fuel delivery. Possibly a bad fuel pump or even bad check valve in the priming bulb.

Much more water should be coming out of that exhaust port especially running on the hose.  The exhaust port is the tale tale on these motors.  When you run them on a hose the pressure will totally obscure a bad impeller.  You have a bad impeller and some kind of blockage going on.  Probably from pieces of the impeller.  That probably has nothing to do with the dying issue however.  Fix the cooling issue first and then tackle keeping the motor running.
