Bad Night

Featured Replies

Decided to go out for about an hour and work on my ultra light fishing. I was only able to hook into two large mouths in the hour because i cannot for the life of me keep from getting wind knots. Im running 8lb power pro with an ultra light 5' 6" daiwa on a pflueger trion 20 series, im going to respool it if anyone can recommend me a good line to use. To make matters worse i go over to a buddies house and put my pole laying across my back seat of my truck. He got something out of the back of my truck and when i got home i found my tip broken off in the door. So hopefully it can be fixed and made into a 5'5" ultra light.

Here's how to stop wind knot.  Always make sure your spool is at the top and not at the bottom when releasing.  This way when you reel it in, it will loop the line at the bottom of the spool instead of at the top where the wind knot is created.  Second, always close the bail by hand and make sure it falls into the line bearing before reeling it back.

Try that and you'll never get wind knots.

I always manually turn my bail over. Ill have to try that other first one though. Are you talking about making sure the spool is at the top of its spinning position?

Make sure you do not over fill the spool. Too much line will let loose loops spill over the lip and create the wind knot.

I always "thumb" the spool even with spinning reels. I just put my hand on the spool and stop the line as soon as it hits the water. Keeps wind knots to a minimum

Yes, so the string is spooling at the bottom of the spool first when you retrieve.
