#4 Gamakatsu round bend trebles

Featured Replies

Many of you reccomend the #4 treble replacements by various companies in lieu of the standard hooks on the original Rat L Trap.  I brought them home and they appear a bit larger than the hooks currently on thse baits.  Is that a problem?

Thanks!

Are you using the 1/2oz Rattle-Trap?  If so the #4 should only be bigger than the back hook but it shouldn't be a problem.  The problem I see here is that you should have gotten the EWG hooks instead of the round bend.  But the round bends are still a big improvement over the stock hooks but the EWG are even better than the round bend.

A 1/2" Trap has a #4 on the belly and a #6 on back. I just checked the belly hook against some Gammy #4s and the Gammy has the same gap, but a little longer shank. Shouldn't be a problem as long as the hooks don't tangle.

These Gammys are one of a number of replacement trebles that I've used and they're fine. I've never used EWGs so I have no first-hand knowledge as to how they compare.

Thanks all!  I know many of you have mentioned that the Rat L Trap is being redesigned or has been:  Eagle hooks, oval ring and new finsish.  Cabela's is not carrying them.  Oh well.
