I was driving thru Tamiami trail / 8 st last Saturday ,when I passed the Miccosukee Casino I saw some people fishing the canal on the right (Going from Miami to Naples). I'm thinking that I would try to fish there for Large mouths tomorrow. I want to get some opinions on the fishing there, Is any good? Safety? I'm new to the area ( i lived in the fontainebleau area) and any help will be much appreciated.

I don't know how the fishing has been down south, off the trail, however if its indicative of the alley its real slow. The water is extremely high. I have fished down there years ago. As far as safety goes, lock your doors. Theft is common, and unfortunately, a locked door, does not stop curious thieves. DO NOT leave any important belongings in your car.

I decided to try a pond instead for a few hours because I didn't have much time for the trip. I catched two nice Largemouth ( First two Largemouths I catched  here in Florida). I'll try to catch that spot later. Thanks for the tips.

If you go to the curve there's a wide spot there that lets you access big cypress - can't remember the number - always worth a trip into and it can be amazing - guided a good number of anglers into there and they were always happy. Never was broken into but that's always a possibility anywhere.
