Rapala Husky Jerk

Featured Replies

So, my girlfriend just went out and bought me a #8 husky jerk in silver while she was out at the store. Suprise! So, what's the best way to fish these and do you guys have success with them? I like rapala products but this is the first husky jerk i've had.

I like them they are a great suspending lure. I like to fish them along the weedlines cranking and pausing and varying the pauses.

just use them like any other jerkbait. i have a few and smallmouth love them and they are a hot walleye lure here

Reeling, pausing, or twitching them in while varying the length of the pause is the key. Still one of the best lures out there.

It's really IMO too hot for jerkbait fishing right now but wait for those water temps to drop and oh you have yourself a fish catching machine! IMO Rapala husky jerks are the 2nd best jerk baits on the market only under LC Pointer's. Just vary up your retrive alot until you find the right one. The fish will let you know which one is the right one. ;)

I picked one up this spring and it's a monster! Casts a mile and has the wiggle from hell!

So, I know it suspends, but doesnt it float or sink when i cast it?

It's designed to suspend in cooler water, so it might sink slowly in warmer water. The only way to know is to cast it out there and see.

Oh, and it's never the wrong time of year for jerkbaits. In warm water you jest use floating model or work them faster, and in the cold of Winter you slow down.

The Husky Jerk is still a favorite bait of mine, especially the #10 size.

Northerns love these puppies as well. #8 a bit small for the northerns, but they will still eat it.

Indeed. They will inhale them; especially by weedlines.

I use the big one (perch) when I'm actively targeting those toothy critters.

why do you believe this? im pretty sure i can go catch fish on my husky jerk right now and have been during this summer, im in va as well.

Its of my opinion that during the cold months its ideal to slow down your retrieves, and the husky jerk is a good bait for that. But at the same time, in the summer/warm months you can be way more versatile and fish fast or slow or in between...
