 Yep! It really is the way to go, especially to pick and choose the features you want. He's working on a 4 foot version for my little boy, can't wait to see what he comes up with. 

When I first stared building in the mid 70's you where able to build a rod for a fraction of the cost of a factory rod .Not the case any longer.

You're right, custom is NOT cheap, but it IS worth it. I have a a few factory rods also and they are pretty similar in cost.
