I recently scored a great little boat (10'2" bass tendor) the price was so good that I could not pass it up but the boat does have a little bit of mildew on the seats and on the boat itself  I know it will clean up fine but wondered what most folks use as their go to cleaner and if there is another product that should be used as a protection sort of like wax with cars

 

I am not a clean freak or anything like that but love the girl and want her shined up a bit and to make sure the boat lasts for many more years to come as the odds of me affording a real bass boat anytime soon is very unlikely

 

I plan to store her inside winter and summer.  It looks like she was stored in side until very recently as the damage is quite minor but I still want to shine it up as much as get rid of those few little patches

Look into the subject of using bleach or bleach containing products on upholstery.  I was told by a friend that he destroyed his seats by using a bleach containing product to clean mildew off them; the stitching rotted and the seat panels fell apart.

 

Hopefully someone here can add something to the above.

I was going in the direction of like car wash with maybe a bit of oxy-clean type of product to add to it

I have always used a watered down simple green solution.

Woven plastic pads like scotch-brite and simple green are what I used to clean my kayak and boat.

Has anyone used Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Original on the mildew spots?

regarding the Mr. Clean eraser: I wondered that too.  I would hate to damage the surface

are there any coatings I should be applying once it is clean ???

I wouldn't use a magic eraser.  Those things are just ground glass.  It's really abrasive. 

I used Orange Clean Degreaser and It would like a dream. Also the Simple Green would work they are almost the same thing. Dont forget to add a little elbow grease.

Simple Green will work just fine. I would spray it on, let it sit for a few minutes. Then scrubs it with a soft bristle brush.
