Chatterbait Hooks

Featured Replies

I dont know about you guys but I was really dissapointed by the hook. I like the bait overall buy my hook is really dull right out the box. You guys notice the same thing?

I imagine it will probably go through a fish's lip but I don't like the "probably" in that sentence. If you know what I mean... :;)

Yes, since their introduction the Chatterbait hooks have been dull.

I sharpen them plus add a trailer hook.  ;)

i sharpen them and add 1/0 owner spinnerbait trailer with spilt tail trailer i always catch them all the times no more lost fish

I have never heard of anyone doing trailer hooks AND trailers. That is probably because I just started fishing this summer lol!

But since you do it, do you find that the trailer hook gets in the way of the trailer or does it work out ok for you?

My Pure Poison chatterbaits have sharp hooks. Never used a trailer hook..Have a few that are about a yr. old, have caught a number of bass on them, and have never sharpened the hooks.

thats why i buy customs 3/4 oz come with 6/0 mustad hook good strong hook

I never cared for Chatterbait's components, including hooks.

My personal experience is that things work out OK if using a standard, straight spinnerbait trailer. But curly tails and other styles get wrapped around in the trailer hook.

That's why the baits are absolute crap.  Buy the Strike King Pure Poison and be done with it.

Burley actually made a good post.  ;)

Chatterbait hooks are just plain garbage.  The Pure Poison is a much better product.

it all depends what trailer lures you use

for single tail grub i dont add trailer hooks ruins the action

if i add lft shad or swimbait as trailer i add trailer hooks thats why i always sharpen the chatterbaits hooks

IDK if I would take the dull Chatterbait hook or the Pure Poison clips bending out or snapping on hooksets and swings....

Remember that pic I sent you Burley? It happened on two others...

There is now a chatterbait pro series version, hopefully it sports an upgrade in hook quality.

I haven't had a problem with the hooks not being sharp enough, but they feel like you could break them in half if you really tried.

I had a saltwater version Chatterbait and the hook separated from the rest of the bait as I netted a redfish. It was the first fish that bait had handled, certainly no reason for it to break except for poor quality.

I bought some Revenge baits from another member, haven't tried them but they look to be built well.

yeah.... id get either the pure poison or the booyah boogie bait.

chatterbaits have bad components and are ridiculously overpriced.

Tin, how big were the fish, that the clip broke, or bended..? I know a couple of the 5lb'r's I caught didn't bend mine..

Just 3's and 4's nothing big, but heavy grass, timber, 50 pound braid, and a H rod. I sent Burley pics and Matt 5.o was there. They are still my favorite chatters though.

O.K..thanks...Mine were in some light weeds..on 10lb yozuri.

I've caught numerous 5#, 6#, and 7# bass on Chatterbaits with no problems with hookups or component failure. The trailer I use the most is the Zoom Split Tail trailer.

I use 50# braid and medium heavy baitcasting tackle.

To get the best performance with those type baits, a superline is a must.

My best documented 5 bass limit of 30# 11 oz was on a 1/4 oz Chatterbait.

The only copy that is close to the performance of a Chatterbait is the model sold by .. The hooks on those are a little smaller so I prefer the Chatterbait.

I had a chatterbait for all of 10 casts.  The last cast I had it the jig separated from the blade in mid air.  The jig flew most of the way across the pond.  The blade was still attached to my line.

I haven't purchased another Chatterbait branded lure since.

Thanks for the replies guys though I must say, they are not very reassuringl lol....

The worst part is knowing that I was out about $5.50 as soon as I purchased the bait... :-/
