Dobyns Rod Question

Could you throw jigs on a dobyns 735c savvy rod? Let me know

  • Super User

You can, but I much prefer the 734 for jigs. That's not to say the 735 wouldn't work for it.. It definitely will work to throw 1/2oz and 3/4oz jigs by all means. If you want a dedicated jig rod, I'd go 734, but if you're only throwing jigs a 20% of the time on the rod and getting the rod for something you use far more, then yes it will work.

Sure you can.  I throw jigs on my champion 735, but I really miss my 705 it was a great jig rod.  I think the 735 is better for moving baits, it's a great frog rod!

Yes it is an excellent jig rod, tons of backbone

Also note that on the TW website and even on the rod blanks themselves they will often note a list of suggested baits one can throw on the rod, though the list obviously isn't an "all inclusive" list. Jigs are listed on the rod and I have also fished them on mine in the 3/8 to 1/2 oz plus trailer variety. No problem with that rod for jig usage.

I have a 745 and its my dedicated rod for pitching jigs. Its got a ton of backbone and a great soft tip. It really doesn't feel good for casting 1/2oz jigs all day. It almost feels too stiff. I've been told the 4 power rods are better suited for this. In all 4 of the Dobyns line of rods the powers are pretty close to power.
