Sarasota, Fl

Featured Replies

Hi guys and gals, it's been a while since I've been on here. Finished a tour overseas and I've moved back to Sarasota, FL. Want to get back to fishing for some bass, so anyone in my area know of some good spots besides the little canal by Ackerman and what used to be a good place over in the meadows? I haven't lived here for a few years now and wasn't as much into fishing as I am now, so I never really looked for places. Tight lines!

Deer Prarie Creek Park off US 41 just north of River Road.  Cocoplum Canal in North Port.  Myakka River north of Border Rd.  All of these are a half hour south of you but productive.  Stop by Cooks Sportland in Venice and hit up the guys for some advise, they will oblige.  For more north Sarasota advise hit All About Fishing tackle shop.  Its on northbound 41 just south of the old high school building and the 301 cut off.

Thanks for the reply, I talked with the guys at All about fishing on 41; one of the guys in there said there was a pretty productive pond right on Bahia Vista, but I'm not sure where, I think he might of meant the one on the other side of McIntosh, but I haven't tried it yet. I'm in N. Sarasota, near University; I'm trying to find places somewhat close that I can just pop by for a few hours and then be right home and the wife doesn't yell.

EDIT: Any ideas about Ward Lake off of SR70?

Cant help you that far north, sorry. Paddle-fishing.com and the online fisherman .com are both full of guys from that area. They might be able to help you.

The new ramp on Cattleman Rd between Fruitville and University is open.  I have not fished that park but I worked on the project.  Part of that lake is a 30 year old pit and there are big fish in it.  It is electric motor only.  The entire shore line is accessible on foot or bicycle.

Are you speaking of the lake inside of the Park next to the Meadows that all the rowing teams go to? Haven't fished there in a long time, but last time I did, I kept getting hung on the underwater buoy lines that they used to mark the lanes (with weedless rigs); or is this a different place?

Same place but it is 3 times the size now.

Doc...

If at some point you want to take a ride south, the places 0119 suggested are all good.

If you change your mind, PM me and I'll give you some ponds, canal's and a few lakes in No. Port and Charlotte Co that you can try also.
