Rookie Looking For Pointers...

Featured Replies

Evening all. This year I have done more fishing than I have done in the last 20 years. I am enjoying myself and really digging in. I fish the Susquahanna around Harrisburg, PA and the Swatara creek that feeds in at Middletown. I haven't had much luck, trying different lures, live bait. I've caught about 10 fish since summer. Now with things cooling down I still want to get out but want to ask for any help to get me reeling in some good catches. I currently have no ride so I'm on the shore. Hopefully come next spring I'll have something.

Welcome ! I've learned a lot here myself :)  The difference in my fishing, catches and confidence since people taught me to ask the right questions is huge! What's the structure like? Water quality? Flow and visibility? Fishing pressure? Other species? What lures and how worked.......line etc. etc.! They asked me rapid and specific questions to elicit information before they offered advice, the way I used to ask patients questions before I retired from nursing! This is the best place for gathering bass fishing knowledge on the net. Now I'm like the neighbor's dog that won't go home. Again, welcome!

I fish the susquehannah near Wilkes Barre tons(its a 7 minute walk from my house). Bass in spring and fall, catfish in summer.  Fall time is great for using jigs, grubs, and spinnerbaits.  Springtime i use a lot of shallow cranks like squarebill bombers, rebel craws, and frog wobbler type cranks.  Greens and browns tend to work better than about anything else ive used.  Its a fantastic smallmouth fisherie for sure.
