Just picked up the 7'0, medium-heavy, clear water squarebill rod on good ol black eye friday. So far, seems like an awesome rod - but i just haven't used enough of these glass rods to give an educated opinion on em.

 

Anybody used this rod? Id really appreciate hearing what ya think!

This is just my opinion.   The fiberglass Rick Clunn rods (the turquoise ones) make good cat fish rods.  I think that everyone should have a set of cat rods for tight line, slack line and sitting in a rod holder drifting techniques.  I think that as bass fishing rods, they are pretty heavy and clunky.   They are a little lighter, when compared to 70's & 80's era fiberglass rods, but I think that there are lots of lighter - stronger - better cranking rods out there.

 

At 2 for $50 though, they are a great catfish rod.

So you can use them on the military base and let us know how you like them or on Briary Creek or Sandy.

You know Fort Pickett? There's some great fishing out there ... and yeah, the rod was originally $90, but I picked it up for $30, so I was pretty pleased.

Looks like I kinda jumped the gun, but oh well ... i didn't really need two anyways :/

Bought 2 of these back in March when Dicks was running  2 for ($50.00) great buy.......I used the rods all spring/summer/fall and my hook-up ratio went way up.... I think I lost 1 or 2 the whole time I was fishing... Really like the glass rod for baits using trebles... The more you fish with the rod, I think the more you will really like it.....

P.S.   These rods get a bad rap for being heavy....... yes, there a little heavier than graphite rods but not much...I fish with these rods all day long with no problem.... if the rod is too heavy, I suggest working out in the weight room a little more

I have the 7'6" deep cranking model and I don't care for it. It feels like a short handled pool cue with a whippy tip. I just never got comforatble with it. The 7 footers may be entirely different.

I received the one's I ordered today too.  I got a 7' M and a  7' H.  They are indeed heavy!  I don't think it's too horrible though.  Especially the price.  They look good.  Great fit and finish.  Hopefully the 7' H will balance well with a Abu 6500.  I've been wanting one for trolling for rock fish and musky.

Agreed. Maybe the shorter ones are better, but the deep cranker I owned (for about a week before returning it) weighed a ton and was way to whippy. And I work the weight bench 3-4 days a week. I'm a pretty strong guy in pretty good shape, but that rod just wore me out. Went to a G. Loomis deep cranking stick. Much better.

Im with what some of you have said - their a little heavier than some, but its not extreme. And for those of you saying the 7'6" is really heavy and whippy - I haven't tried that model, but the 7'0 seems pretty decent. Its not too extremely heavy or whippy, but lets not forget...this IS a cranking rod - its not exactly supposed to be iron-stiff.
