Pitch'in & Flip'in

Featured Replies

What type of adjustments should you make to a baitcaster when Pitch'in & Flip'in. Spool tenison or Magnetic braking system.

I loosen the spool tension and crank up the brakes

I have learned to keep my setup the same at the suggestion of gerald swindle.. whether that is open and loose and learning to cast again haha (thumb control) or setting it up like you normally cast and learning to pitch that way..  that way when you are pitching to say a dock close up.. and you want to hit the corners.. you dont have to switch rigs.. or change your setup.. because on the water, time is important..  personally I learned to loosen up my breaks a few ticks.. and keep my free spool nearly the same.. hope this helps!

I loosen the spool tension and crank up the brakes

Thanks

I loosen the tension knob and put the breaking systems to minimum. On reels like the shimano's I sometimes even totally remove the weights from the centrifugal breaking system to make it easier to pitch lighter baits. also I usually upgrade the spool bearings with either hawg tech bearings or bocas. If I want to make a few casts I either jist use my thumb or increase the tension knob a bit.

I used to be totally Curado guy and just adjusted spool tension a bit. I switched over to Lews last year and I set the magnets at hallway and loosen the spool tension so it is very loose. If I want to make a cast its a quick little adjustment on the spool tension knob.

Loosen up the tension knob, brakes stay the same. Boca orange seals on all my reels, really helps with the effort required to pitch which then improves distance and accuracy

loosen tension, brakes stay at 4.

Pretty simple really.  Trick is learning how to make longer casts with loose tension so you don't waste a few seconds fiddling with knob.
