Jacksonville Ponds

Featured Replies

I'm new to Jacksonville and I'm looking for a few new spots. I live on the south side. I'm willing to travel any where in Jacksonville and will take you to the few ponds in my neighborhood on Baymeadows.

Ok thanks I've seen a pond by the FBI place on Gate pkwy with no signs posted. Would I get ran off if its not posted?

It depends. Most of the time not. You just move to the area?

Been here for almost a year. I've been just hitting the ponds in my neighborhood but its getting old. I fish alone so I hadn't worked up the nerve yet to just stop somewhere I hadn't been and just start fishing.

Sent you a PM....Yeah I sometimes if not sure I scope it out first. I stay away from anything with a sign no matter what. Some of the residential areas can post small tricky ones. But most places, especially industrial and Business parks are cool.

There's actually two by the FBI building one is very visable across from an apartment complex and I think there is a bank or something right there with a parking lot. I have fished tere few times and caught fish. The woman that works at Strike Zone I ran into while fishing there and she said she has caught big fish and her co workers as well as couple customers said there are big fish in there over 8lbs, biggest I got from there was probably 4 but like I said only fished it like 4 times. That one you can fish without getting ran off.

You can fish that pond that if you are facing the FBI building it is over to the right. I believe there is a path along the side that I was told you can drive through to get to it if you have a truck, SUV, jeep. I never fished there but ony hear good things. A buddy of mine has put his kayak in there with his buddy and have got into some big fish. Heard stories from a member of a local bass club that I met at dicks and he said same thing about that spot.

Any spot you fish will hold fish. What I do is I use google earth on my phone and find spots. Then I will look for businesses or complexes and then google how long they have been around to gague how long that body of water has been around, that's the key to finding big fish spots.

Do you have a kayak or anything like that? If so your options are endless! I'm stuck on the bank but my buddy just got a Jon boat so we take that out on the weekend and hit the areas we can't get to from the bank

Thanks I'm a bank fisher for now but will be getting a 10 or 12ft jon boat soon. I've seen tons of ponds on google earth , just hadn't been and looked up close. I've seen one behind the middle school on point meadow that looked nice.

What kind of baits have you been using? I've been catching a few on a black trick worm, working it slow.

I'm the wrong person to ask about baits man because for the warm months it was all frogs. Past 3 months it has been KVD 1.5s and recently it has been pop'r and cranks (for whatever reason they work when it is generally the time to slow down your presentation)

But bigger worms work well this time of year around here. 6" senkos, trick worms, 10" worms I had a lot of luck with last year but I wasn't fishing this late/early into the year however u wanna call it.

Depends on the type of spot I am fishing depends on what I am going to do and what colors I am going to use. This time of year I think the fish are feeding on bait fish so that's why the cranks and shad raps that I have been using have been working. Not sure if you are familiar with cranks but what I generally do is match the crank with the size of baitfish that I see. If I see smaller bait fish I will throw a KVD 1.0 and bigger ones I will throw KVD 1.5 or a shad rap (for deeper water). Also match the color with the colors of te baitfish in that spot.

My buddy DS uses senkos when nothing else seems to be working. He wacky rigs them and kind of jigs it off the bottom and he has luck doing that.

When the fish stop chasing the baitfish like I said I will be going back to worms but the bigger ones 6" senko and I like the 10" magnum worm I think yum makes them. Never had luck with jigs but I know they work. Now that my buddy has a jon boat I may start to get the hang of the jig I know a lot of people pull out monsters on jigs

AK is opposite me LOL he is a power fisher while I use more slow plastics.

Trick worms, brush hogs, craws, ribbontails, lizards, rattlesnakes all texas rigged with light weight, 1/16 up to 1/4...then some weightless like senkos, rattlesnakes and trick worms. flukes too. Vibe worms, horny toads or buzzbaits on top. I will use lipless cranks, pop-rs and walk the dog baits in spring and early summer. Started with the frog cuz of Lou and LMG...booyah padcrasher. just started with jigs, my buddy has done well on them so I figured I would joing the party. Just started with spinnerbaits too. I throw cranks and jerkbait ocasionally.

Thanks for all of the advice. That pad crasher is awesome, after about 4inches of rain in 2 days I went the morning after and caught 7 bass from 4lb to 7 lbs in 45 mins. I've never had that to hapen again but I guess I caught them in a feeding frenzy.

  • 3 months later...

Where on Baymeadows do you fish? I live off southside by the Avenues mall. Always looking for a close pond to catch a few bass
