best fly for float and fly rig on the river?

Featured Replies

i've been reading about cold weather success with a float and fly rig. Does anybody know what types of flies work best for this? I intend to use it on the river for a winter bite.

The "fly" part of the rig is usually small craft hair jigs. Not flies.

I tie mine on smaller ballhead jigs.

There's tons of info on the internet, and here, too.

Punisher Lures in Celina, Tn makes the best one in my opinion. Use the lightest ones that you can get away with, and don't overfish the lure.

Spro phat fly, also doubles as a great bait to cast. Ive had really good luck using a loop knot and a little rod tip english.
