Only Using One Braking System On Dual Braking System Reels

Featured Replies

Does any body just use their centifucal brakes and have their magnetic brakes all the way off on their dual braking system reels or vise versa. I just thought about this today and thought i may play around with this "idea" once the ice melts. If anybody does do this in what situationswould you use one braking system instead of two.

on heavier lures Dual breaking is not as necessary unless there is a strong wind or you have a relatively lazy thumb. the magnetic portion of the breaking really helps to prevent issues towards the end of the cast usually associated with either wind or lighter lures. at least this is when I use only one of them.

It's a matter of preference and casting style/ability. Personally I prefer cent. brakes over mag only and ca take or leave dual brakes.

I have a bunch of dual-braking reels. I generally run the centrifugals that I need (1 to 3 on) and have the mag braking between 0 to 2.  Wind comes up, or with high aerodynamic drag baits, or it gets really cold and my thumb gets "dumb"...then I start cranking in more magnetic.

This is why I've never been a fan of dual brakes. To many possibilities to maximize effeciency for my keep it simple taste. I like Shimanos VBS and Daiwas Z. I can set it and forget with both and just fish. If I had a reel with dual braking I would rely on the cent brakes and only utilize the magnets as conditions indicated

I am with Goose on this, although my collection of dual brake reels is just a starter set compared to his. :respect-059:  I generally set the centrifugal brakes according to the application; 2-4 brakes on for casting, 0-2 for pitching. Line and lure determine how many. I only add magnetic to compensate for changing wind conditions. It is not too complex and works well for me.
