Fenwick Aetos Rods?

Recommended Posts

Anyone try these out, I'm looking at some more high end rods. Wondering if these are worth the price especially when it comes to sensitivity and weight. I also hear the new HMG is pretty good as well. I never hear too many bad things about Fenwick, the only one I've been able to handle is the HMX, but I think I want something better than that.

Thanks

Aetos = Awesome!!!! Seriously, I have a 7'2" MH-XF Aetos that is a mean pitching stick and the sensitivity is above par, in fact I have a hard time putting it down. I have 3 smallmouth series now and the Aetos along with the old HMG and I'm really liking Fenwick lately. I was a custom and G.Loomis guy but my income went in the tank after I got sick so to make a long story short I was looking for a high end rod with out the price and that is when I discovered the smallmouth series, I was hooked. It strated with 1 spinning rod and then I added a casting rod and then another and then an Aetos, awesome rods that fish well above the price point. I was going to get another Aetos until I got a chance to check out the new HMG, now I'm conflicted, the Aetos is a better rod, to that there is no doubt but the new HMG is a lot of rod at the $100 dollar price point, and when I say a lot of rod I mean I haven't found anything even close, it is very light weight and balanced perfectly but it may be too thin in diameter for some so that is out there. I think an Aetos would fit your needs, I got mine from Fish usa, great place to buy from with great prices.

I have a couple of Fenwick Aetos rods and I like the ones I have.  I've got the 7'2" MH rod smalljaw67 mentioned above.  I like it. I got it toward the end of last year and I've used it for throwing 3/8 to 5/8 Jika rigs, mostly in 10 to 20 feet of water, occasionally shallower.  I feel like I've stuck nearly every bite I've gotten.  Had my line snapped twice - that could  have been a catfish.  They will occasionally hit GULP  baits bounced along the bottom.  Whatever fish it was, it put a SERIOUS bend in the rod and I think I would have controlled it had the line not snapped.  I'm pretty certain also that I had my drag set tighter than necessary as well.

In addition to that rod I"ve got the 7'9" Heavy Action/Fast tip rod for throwing A-rigs.  It works good for that.  Early last spring, I had a 7foot something medium action one that I used to throw square bills, and it worked great for that purpose and then there was operator error and I broke it.  I've decided that I don't need a higher dollar, very lightweight rod to throw square bills.  They swapped it out at the store and that is how I got the 7'2" jig rod.  So anyway, I like them, the 2 I have anyway.

I can get the Fenwicks about $40 off the original price for the Aetos, if that factors into my decision for a rod in that price range

Ive got a similar deal and have 2 aetos bass rods and another ice rod. Theyre my favorite rods.
