  1. It is one of my favorite workhorse reels, I'm planing on getting much more. I prefer it over my Tatula, Lexa, and Lew's Tournament honestly. To me it palms the best, it's light, and powerful. Unlike many other people I don't find the Tatula to be that appealing to me, pretty sure my SX can outcast it. I believe that's due to the fact that I'm kind of partial to the magtrax brake system and not magforce. I don't think you'll be disappointed and they also carry a 3 year warranty, I hear that Abu Garcia has great customer service. The only few problems I have with them is that Abu Garcia's thumbars are not the greatest, and the plastic (silver pieces) can get worn and turn a brownish color if you have more sweaty hands.
  2. There is a topic that i accidentally posted that doesn't have a complete title, wouldn't let me delete it. Sorry about that, moderators!
  3. Ok, so I have a DieHard charger. I have been charging my batteries with the fast charge (10a.) If I have time should I use the "trickle" (2a) charge? They both have an "auto-off"/"maintain" on those settings. Which is better to use? My batteries are just EverStart Deepcycle Marine (biggest size). Will the 10a give less life to the battery over time? I'm just wondering what is the best way to charge them. Also over the winter do you guys leave your batteries on a "maintainer" literally all winter and when you're not using it? Does a Battery Tender work? Thanks
  4. Ok so our trolling motor was being worked on, and we borrowed a buddy's 55 lb trolling motor (never again.) I'm new to boat fishing. I know a full charged battery right off the charger will read 13ish and in like a day it will be down to around the normal 12.6. So we ran it from 6-12 and I tested the battery and it read 12.20 when we were finished. Battery was at 12.5 in the beginning of the day. When should I charge this battery and when is a battery considered dead, and needs a charge? Our other trolling motor is a 75 lb and requires both, so I will charge both to full charge before we use that again. Thanks
  5. I'm from PA, I'm very new to fishing on a boat and I'm pretty much overwhelmed on where to fish on my lake. Where should I be looking for posts-spawn bass? Should I be looking at the dropoffs/like transitions from shallow to deep water? The water was about 72 degrees yesterday. I feel like I was fishing the wrong spots (too shallow) and the bass that were biting were extremely weary and would not really take my lure (the few that tried...) Also my main question is, what temperature will the post-spawn be basically ending and transitioning into summer. I'm assuming during the summer pattern I should look for cover (mostly grass) in just about any depth and deepwater structure.
  6. Thanks guys for the input, I understand how to use it and that it is what is below the boat. Im talking like if I see a good area, but no "arches" in that area should i even bother fishing?
  7. Yeah I can see how you read that wrong lol. Talked to MotorGuide, they said it's covered by warranty and to take it to a certified repair shop, too bad it is about 2 hours away. Hopefully if i do take it, I get it back quickly as well.
  8. it's a positive from one battery crossed to the negative on the other.
  9. No, it is a correct circuit. The guy at the Marine shop told me how, and when we got towed in that guy said it was right, and I found a diagram lol
  10. The MotorGuide recommends a 50a manual reset. We bought one about $10 except it is automatic, I haven't installed it. I doubt this would fix my problem, and is the automatic one alright, what do you think?
  11. So what am I looking for, what do the different colors mean, i know yellow is the strongest return, but how do I know if it is rock/hard or soft, what do the reds and blues mean? I don't know if it is different for certain fishfinders, but I'm mostly talking about the Garmin Echos. How can I tell what is weeds or wood, etc? Thanks
  12. Ok so I know it is not used to "find fish", but I was wondering. It's spring time and I get out on the water and see fish suspended at about 10 ft (notable arcs.) I move into the shallows looking for structure and cover, and I see no fish on the finder, maybe some small clouds of baitfish. Should i still try to fish a spot, or pass it up if i see no "arcs"? Maybe a stupid question, but I'm fairly new to fishing off a boat Thanks
  13. Well hooked the motor up in my basement, and no go. It's not the batteries, they are all reading above 12.6 v. Time to call MotorGuide and possibly take it to a service center about 2-3 hours away... Let me just say again, first time out with the motor....
  14. im using the cables already attached to the trolling motor to connect it, and the "series" cable is size 4, not 6 so it's heavier
  15. I'm not too sure of the problem, but it is two batteries, with the + and - crossed with a cable and then the motor cables go to the one positive and negative. Sorry im not too electrical lol
  16. No, I do not have a circuit breaker, it said it wasn't required, I purchased a 50 amp circuit breaker, it was recommended but not installed yet. There is not really an on/off switch, you just turn the and and it "clicks" on or off
  17. Today was the first day out on the water with our "new" boat. It's only powered by a trolling motor. It is a Motorguide Varimax 24v 75lb thrust motor and I have two EverStart Maxx Marine 29 deep cycle twelve volt batteries. We were out for about 2 hours (first time with batteries and trolling motor, they are all new) and the motor stopped working. The digital display on the trolling motor still worked, but the motor did not function. The circuit was correct and clean. I went home and charged the one battery and once complete I used a multimeter and got a reading of about 13.30 right after charging, the battery that was not charged yet gave a reading of about 12.4 (I thought 12.6 was normal.) When we hooked both of them up to the charger it showed a low battery percentage, but the volts were still "normal" (according to my multimeter), I assume. I am charging the second battery right now. What do you think my problem is the battery or motor, what should I do? We had to be towed back in on our first day on the boat...what fun. Also I'm using a DieHard charger on a fast 10a charge, is this correct or do I need a different charger/setting. Also do Deep Cycle batteries lose there charges and how fast. Do I need something to maintain the battery at all times? Sorry for all of the questions, I'm kind of agitated and freaking out since it had to happen the first time ever out. Thanks, Zach
  18. Well If you were actually planing on throwing a lot of cranks with it, I would recommend a different rod. Glass or Glass/composite.
  19. I only have ever had experience with the 7' med. Vendetta. It's a good all around rod, sensitivity is decent compared to what I fish (Omens/Infernos.) For some reason it feels very good in my hand with just about any reel. There is something about it that I love, I just can't explain it. Keep in mind Abu Garcia rods tend to run slightly heavier in power. Also this rod is more of a cranking rod, it is stiff. But when it comes down to fishing it, you can definitely tell the med fast bend/softness. It would probably be good for finesse jigs or when you want the fish to really take your bait as well. Sorry, that is the only rod I could comment on.
  20. Im just telling you, that is probably the reason why the Shimano out casts it by so much. I'm not starting a debate, I have regular Tatula and it wasn't as impressive as I thought it should've been with casting. So i flushed the bearings and now it casts stupid far. I'm looking at getting the Curado I too.
  21. You ever flush them bearings and reoil on that Tatula?
  22. I can get the Fenwicks about $40 off the original price for the Aetos, if that factors into my decision for a rod in that price range
  23. Anyone try these out, I'm looking at some more high end rods. Wondering if these are worth the price especially when it comes to sensitivity and weight. I also hear the new HMG is pretty good as well. I never hear too many bad things about Fenwick, the only one I've been able to handle is the HMX, but I think I want something better than that. Thanks
  24. So has anyone fished these, have any experience with them. They look pretty nice, just wondering about there performance and weight. Mostly the bottom contact rods. They are kind of cheap now, so possibly get a whole new system going if they're worth it. I'm slowly really starting to like Daiwa after turning my head to them for awhile (probably slowly starting to replace my reels with Tatula's and Lew's). I know the Cielo's are not new, I think they might even be in the process of being phased out. Just looking for some input. Thanks
  25. I wouldn't necessarily say that breaking it in, is the fix. Mine just seemed like it kind of worked itself out
