  1. Do you think acetone would be bad on gears?
  2. Do you mean Ketone? Anyways, The only parts I would put it on are the bearings and possibly the gears. All of my baitcasters and spinning reels are aluminum frames, so it wouldn't matter if it got on that, I'm assuming?
  3. Hello, so I'm going to be doing reel servicing myself. I was wondering if you should only use acetone on the bearings? I was wondering because i was going to use it on the gear and maybe put some on a quetip to clean up the grease on the inside of the body in my spinning reels and other parts. I would just like to know to be safe, and is it safe to get on your hands or should I wear gloves of something of the sort? Thanks
  4. Alright so I was removing the shields from my side-plate bearing on my quantum. I don't know how it happened, but the little clip that holds the shield in flew somewhere, and I can't find it. So is it alright to just use the bearing w/o a shield on one side, and if so which way would u face the open side, towards the spool or towards the side-plate. I'm guessing facing away from the spool. Thanks
  5. No, I have not held them in person yet. I only go to BPS once a year. So I was a little confused seeing fast/x-fast. I'm used to all graphite rod actions. Just one thing I know that I'm not a big fan of is that stupid "power hump" grip.
  6. I use 15# big game, just what i prefer. That or 15# red label or abrazx fluoro.
  7. I'm looking to get more into crankbaits. I don't necessarily want to spend a ton of money on one. I have an Abu Veritas 7' med, with a med-fast taper, but it feels pretty stiff, so I don't know. Though I won't skimp on the reel, it'll probably be a BB1. So was looking at Bass Pro's crankin sticks. I was wondering how well these actually work for regular med-deep diving crankbaits. They are labeled as fast action, which I was a little confused, and I would think it would be better to have a more whippy tip to throw cranks? I also looked at the W&M Skeet Tessera S glass, but I wasn't sure. I know the crankin sticks go on sale. So do they basically have a cranking stick for any application, like sq. bills through deep divers? Thanks
  8. So, if i just soak them, it won't work since they have the shields on them? I'm only trying to get the manufacturer's grease out of the bearings. It hasn't been used on the water yet.
  9. I'm not exactly sure if they are 1/4, they are just lighter cranks. I wasn't really thinking, this would be for deep divers, so i wouldn't have the problem
  10. Thought I'd chime in. I have the previous generation Quantum Accurist (greenish/grey.) I feel like the thing is built like a tank. The only problem, which is one I couldn't figure out, is that the drag does not need to be adjusted. I have it the whole way down and it feels like I got 5lbs. of drag (this is why it is now my flipping reel.) It casts pretty good, but only has 4 magnetic brake settings (i use 1.) Even though it doesn't bomb lures, i feel the most comfortable with my Quantum when it comes down to heavy duty applications. It just feels so solid in my hand. I don't know how to describe just how durable the frame feels, imo.
  11. Once these Duckett Ghost rods come out, I'm looking for a few options to try on these rods. There is something about Abu that really draws me to their products, but I never really bought them. I have last generations Quantum Accurist, which I like a good bit. It's almost like you have to be an idiot to get a backlash with it. So yeah seeing which one you would prefer, I already know how good Lew's are, so I'm leaving them out of this topic. So the Quantum Catalyst, Abu S/SX. Although I was thinking is the Abu S much different in quality and casting distance as the new Orra SX? Sorry for some questions that may seem kind of repetitive on other posts, I just like to have a lot of opinions. I'm constantly thinking of my options and what I want to do next, it's almost unhealthy! Thanks
  12. So has anyone tried one of these reels out yet?! They've been out for a little while, they seem pretty appealing to me, but I can't find anyone who has used one or posted a review on one. If you used one, can it cast lightweight cranks well (1/4oz.)? Also tell me what you like and dislike about it. What other reels for cranking do you think are better (in the price range, other than the BB1, lol)? Thanks
  13. Would break cleaner work? Right now i have Abu Garcia oil and lube also
  14. How do you flush the bearings, sorry if that is a dumb question?
  15. How did you flush the bearings? May be a dumb question.
  16. How do you like your Revo S, and STX? Also what about like tolerance, smoothness, casting, etc. Compared to your Lew's reels?
  17. Oh wow didn't even think to look at the older generation. I saw them on there too..
  18. I have been buying and trying a couple different reels, like the Lew's Tournament MG and the Daiwa Tatula. To be completely honest i was not that impressed with the casting distance of the Tatula (given i was in my yard, with both reels) It seems like i could bomb a half oz. jig with half the effort with my Tournament MG on half breaks, whereas i had the Tatula on almost freespool! (2). So what i'm getting at, is I'm trying to find reels in the $100-$150 price range. My first reel, a while back was a Blackmax, it can cast really far, but it seemed very finicky and picky for me. So i have been eyeing up the SX, mostly because of the deeper capacity than a Lew's Tournament and I'm pretty sure it can cast well and far. I would just stick with tournament mg's but it seems like everyone on here thinks the regular Tourny's are much better, by looking at the specs, I can't find too much of a difference except it has a wiffle/smaller capacity spool, dual cast adjustment, looks a little different, and i think that's about it. Sorry I'm kind of rambling. Something about Abu and their reels really gets me. I constantly eye them up, but never pull the trigger. Probably half my problem is when i read reviews on Tackletour, it's like every reel but Daiwa and Shimano is bad... (except Lew's.) The quality of Lew's is great. I just want to try something else. I heard the gen. 2 SX reels were better, but I'm looking at gen. 3. So what do you guys think of the new generation SX, and think i should do? The S could possibly be an option, but i'd probably rather by an Orra SX for that matter. Thanks. I appreciate it, if you bared with me during that post, haha!
  19. Yeah, I was debating since i use 15-20lb Big game mono (may be a lot in your opinion, just what i prefer) so that may compensate a little for the stiffness
  20. So I have a 7'1" *** that i originally used for plastics and jigs. Which i love the sensitivity. I was debating on switching the rod to a spinnerbait rod, but i have been thinking. The *** has a very fast taper, it's pretty stiff. I do like that for plastics, but I don't know about spinnerbaits. So I was debating on buying a 7 ft Veritas or 7 ft Halo Daylite. Sensitivity is not that big of a factor, but i would like it to be pretty good. Also i see the Veritas rods have evolve guides on them now (***'s "company".) Also if that doesn't work out, are the Omens more sensitive than the Veritas? I could always use more plastics rods! If there are any other rods that you would recommend for spinnerbaits by other companies, let me know! Also I have a hard time, but would like to just stick with a couple of rod companies. I love to try everything, but I'm like ocd with certain things. So having tons of different rod brands and reels, kind of annoys me "haha"! I was thinking of sticking with 3 (for different applications) Powell Infernos, 13 Omens, and Abu Veritas (possibly). Duckett Ghost rods come out soon too! Oh no! Sorry if this was kind of rambling, but I'll appreciate the help!
  21. Alright, Thanks a lot! That is all I needed to know!
  22. Hello, I have a question about the regulations for PA. My question is: In the rule book it says about fishing with 3 rods/lines. Does this mean you can't have more than 3 lines in the water? I've wondered this for a very long time. I just used to shore fish so I wouldn't carry too many, but now that I have a boat. I have much more rods and reels. Obviously I only use 1 at a time..I'm bass fishing. So you can have more than three, but there can't be more than three lines in the water, is what I'm asking? Thanks
  23. Yes I do agree the *** is very nice/sensitive for the price. I've heard that the Mojo's aren't all that sensitive. Thanks for the input
