Finally Broke A Spinning Reel

Featured Replies

Been using a supreme 30 mg for years with absolute flawess use.  After 100's of fish, snagged many many times I finally knocked it out of wack on a snag.  The reel is still smooth but it just acquired a bit of geary feeling, usable but unacceptable to me.  There is no doubt what I'm replacing the reel with, exactly what I had.

I can understand you liking that reel but I'd have to try something different. I don't mean it in the sense that I'm a Shimano guy so I'm trying to steer you in that direction, I just mean if I were in your shoes I'd try something new. Either way good luck in getting your replacement reel. Oh and if you do happen to change your mind let us know which reel you went with.

Why mess with success - get another Supreme and fish on...

Well, its about time!

We knew you would destroy that reel sooner or later.

And it finally happened.

Any thoughts on getting it repaired  before replacing it?????

It just not because I really like the reel, I do.......I like the line capacity 8/140 yd printed on my spool, although the web page says 8/130 yds, I go straight 10# braid without backing which is the way I like it.

Repair is only feasible at a local shop without the need of parts or shipping. Parts and shipping may not pay when I believe I can replace it for about 75 bux.  I'm going to use it this PM, maybe I'll wack it against a tree a re align it, lol.

Teal, don't be misled.  Yes this reel has caught a lot of fish, it's strictly a freshwater reel, environment is not harsh.

For sure..................no regrets.

Atleast you broke it fishing with it!

I fell in my face in my buddys boat in Tampa bay on a tarpon trip and crushed the bail on my old Spheros...and to add insult to injury i broke my 7'6 H st croix tidemaster....i was not a happy camper

That combo did battle with many tarpon and some big sharks, deep grouper, occasional cobia and more...she was a good one. May she RIP lol

Bail may be replaceable, but sometimes a new reel is a nice adrenaline charge.  I've got 2 spheros a 4000 and an 8000, one is used just for snakeheads and the other only on drift boats when I can't use braid, real workhorse reels.  Just food for thought, in the Shimano line the Sargosa is really nice, much smoother than the Spheros, a little pricier.  In lieu of the Sargosa, I bought a Penn Conquer 7000, in hindsight I'm not overly happy with it.  Fast forward about 2 years I bought the new Quantum Cabo 40, being about a year old I can honestly evaluate it,  just love this reel.  It did take several months to break it in, not as smooth as a Shimano but the criteria is a bit different for this kind of fishing.  Present mind set, although things change, my next offshore reel will be a Cabo  50 or maybe a 60.

I replaced my spheros 8000 with a saragosa. The rod was taken care of by croix

I tried ti replace the bail but she was an old spheros and i couldnt find a bail. Shimano actually hooked me up good the sent me a bai for the newer model overnight for free. It fit but didnt work quite right.
