Ideal Crankbait Fishing Rod/ Duckett Rods

Featured Replies

Hi. I am new to this forum and fairly new to bass fishing. I began fishing this past summer and have been looking to upgrade my tackle. I'm in the market for a crankbait fishing rod and reel. I am pretty sure I will be getting a shimano citica 7:1:1 for the reel. I've been doing research and there seems to be mixed feelings about what the ideal specifications of a crankbait rod are. I was thinking of purchasing a duckett rod and wanted to know what you're experiences with those were as well. Keep in mind I would like to keep the rod a little more of a multi purpose rod rather than strictly a cranking rod. I was thinking I would use this rod for spinnerbaits and swim/ chatters also.

Welcome to the board

Standard cranking rig thats pulling double duty for other applications (in my mind) is a 6'6-7' Mh Mod. With a 6:1reel. The bigger harder pulling cranks rrequire a lower gear ratio to get the down to max depth. I don't mind 7:1 for square bills but if its an all purpose crankin/spinnerbait rod iI'm going with the 6:1

Hello Jack and Welcome to BR ~

And I'd say Teal covered it very well.

Duckett Makes VERY nice fishing rod's and backed by a 20 year warranty, you really can not go wrong buying a Duckett. Being new to fishing I can understand that you would not want to spend a whole lot of money to start with but I would Say save up and buy at least the Duckett Micro Magic, The Duckett Ghost rod is ok for a $99.00 rod but you will see a big difference going up to the micro magic and an ever larger one going to their best rod, the Duckett White Ice, which is amazing. I would tell you to always buy the best gear you can afford, even if you need to save a little longer. It always makes things much better. Also Denali Makes some very nice lower priced fishing rods (Kovert, JadeWood) that you may want to look into. I hope this helps.

Welcome to the forum I'm new also but you will get great info from the fellas in here, I got a 6'8 micro duckett cranking series rod I love it's for my square bills and spinnerbaits it's paired with chronarch e5, I got it last year and used it not as much as I liked.. But it's a great set up..
