Lews Tournament Pro Vs Bb1 Pro For Lighter Lures

Featured Replies

Since Lews came out with the new BB1 pro I don't know which reel would be best. I was under the impression that the spool weight has a lot to do with that and since the BB1 holds more line I was already planning on a TP but the description for the BB1 pro says its new brake system is best for lighter lures. So I don't know :Idontknow:  Going to be casting t-rigs and shakey heads with auw of 3/16 and at the most 3/8.oz

                           Thanks for the help guys

one of my favorite things to throw is a trigged rage craw with a 3/16 tungsten weight. and my Lews TP does just fine. 12# line.........I will say my TPs are supertuned and have boca bearings in them, but even before that I was fine.

anything lighter and I go to a Core50.

Go with the Tour pro. I know the bb1 pro has a deep spool and is probably heavier (spool) so lighter lures are probably not the best best for this reel I have a tour pro and love it. Weightless worms are throws all day on it paired with a medium action *** rod.

for lighter lures under 1/4 oz. and weightless plastics the Tornament Pro would be better suited. The BB1 Pro would be a good reel for 1/4 and up and excells when weights exceed 5/8, it is unbeatable!

of your options I would also get the tournament pro, it definitely has a faster spool, which will help cast the lighter lures, If you go with that one I would suggest either hawgtech bearings or bocas to further increase the spool speed. An option outside of your original question, but that would work better than either of them (IMO) is the Daiwa T3-ballistic, I would get the 8:1 gearing and upgrade the bearings, this is the reel I use for my jigs under 1/4 oz, and it does that job flawlessly. it is also right now $50.00 less than both the reels you are looking to purchase, although I am sure there are some good deals to be found on the lews as well.

i have the tournament pro, for lighter lures it doesn't cast very far 1/8-3/16, you will do well with 1/4 and up.

i don't have the bb1 pro but the breaking system it's the same one as the Quantum Tour Edition PT "Burner" 2006 model and that reel can cast super far with the lure weight you are talking about so it should be the same with the bb1 pro, why you don't try it out on tackle warehouse? you can demo the reel check that out.
