St. Croix Vs. Abu Garcia

Featured Replies

I have the 6'8 XF mojo, the 7'0 F mojo, and the 7'0 veritas all medium power fast or xfast. In my opinion ST.Croix makes a better rod all the way around. Not to mention the warranty service by ST.Croix is great. I feel the mojo is worth every bit of the 20 dollars over the veritas. It's not that the veritas is a bad rod I just don't feel it's as sensitive. Now I haven't used any of them for jerk baits but I have for wacky rig and they all work well. I'd say go ST.Croix and don't look back!

If it was just between those two, I'd pick the Veritas every time.  Someone stated the Veritas being heavier power than the rating, I feel the same for the St. Croix rods too.  I also do not like the offerings by St. Croix below the Avid.  If you really want to go St. Croix, I'd recommend that series over the Veritas.  The Veritas is a better overall value at the 80 dollar price (vs Mojo or Premier),  you go down a step (M/F) then I think it would be the better option than going MH/F or M/XF.

Having saying that though if you can go up a level, the only St. Croix rod I own in my arsenal now is the Avid 6'6" M/F  (Casting).  Hands down in my humble opinion the best rod I've used for jerkbaits and swim jigs.  I've never used it for wacky rigging though, but it should be fine.

If you aren't set on your decision between Veritas and Mojo or Premier, my money would be all in at that price range on the Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth.  I have the spinning version M/XF that can be used for wacky rigging and I do not see why it won't be able to do Jerkbaits (I use this rod mainly for super flukes).  If you look around, you can get one for 100.  This rod performs just as good as some of my mid-high end rods for half the price.
