Well, I did it, and with my wife's blessing (plus I traded in two eye sore old rods), I bought two 6'6" M/F Carbonlites, one spinning and one casting rod, for roughly the price of a St. Croix Premier. Not bad...

 

Paired the spinning with my Lexa 2000 and it balances perfectly. I knew what to expect, somewhat, having owned a Carbonlite briefly, years ago.

 

But the lightness bests my Avid + Stradic setup as far as I can feel. Now I'll have to see how it fishes.

 

The casting rod is setup with my Chronarch 50e and is also fantastic in balance. Can't wait to try them out.

 

Just thought I'd share... Now I'm done with rods for the year... part of the deal, LOL.

I own the same combo of rods you bought. But mine are 7ftrs. I really like and enjoy the CL's they are light, transmit well, have good back bone. LOL... I also have an avid, but that's one of my babies, and its been an awesome rod for me. Enjoy your new rods!! Congrats, the Mrs was on board.

I might...might, be able to fish with them tomorrow. Be nice to wet a line after all the wacky weather we've had here in VA.

 

Both will be for soft plastics, hoping the M/F will have enough backbone. They feel good so far, and the rod bend feels just about right. We'll see.

Traded in an Ugly Stick I used for saltwater when I lived in FL.and got the Carbonlite 6'6" MF. I have 2 CL baitcasters and 2 spinners. Both are very light, durable, and sensitive. Got them all at past BPS fishing classics. They have caught a lot of fish for me!

Going tomorrow to trade in 3, maybe 4 rods.

I strongly considered the Sig series, especially with the K-guides. But after comparing the two today, I chose the CL simply for the added lightness. And it was more noticeable to me this time as I was paying closer attention than last time I compared them. Again, for the reason that I was going to buy a Sig II.

 

Granted, the guides are probably worth the upgrade. I use braid on all my setups, but I don't have much problem on any existing rods, none of which have K-guides.

 

Guess I'll never know what I'm missing, LOL. But for me, I consider every ounce when I purchase now-a-days. My elbows aren't as resilient as they used to be and the lighter the setup, the easier it is on me. 

As the discussion of rod weight is going around, it gave me an idea.

I have a small digital scale I use for lures just to check the real weight after I pour them.

I may take it to check the actual rod weights just to know for sure.

It would be interesting to check them.

That's a good idea. I took my digital scale out the other day on a couple of other rods, haven't done it with the CLs yet.

 

But definitely in my hands, the Sig II felt a tad heavier in the tip -- which would make sense given the materials of the K-guides. But that said, darn fine rods, all of 'em.

Geez - the only way I can get new fishing equipment past my wife is through the Russian Mafia via a remote safe house for pick up on my way to work !!

I hope you have good luck with the CL. I had two break. One about 6 in down from the tip, another about 2 in from the tip. While returning the second one I had a fellow behind me in line tell me he had the same issue with two he had. When he returned the last one he did as I did and changed brands.

Ive got a 6'9"MH xfast(great t-rig rod)and a 7'MH fast both over 2yrs old and no problems. Lots of fish on them and the 6'9" caught my PB last June. I just added another 7'MH fast yesterday,great multi- purpose rod. All mine are regular guides. Sorry to hear you had trouble Chief 2
