Lews Bb1

Recommended Posts

I would say yes. Just got the BB1 Pro in 7.1:1 from Valley Sports and can't wait to use it. Had to give it a good cleaning to remove the grease but not a big deal. At least they take the time to lube the reel to prevent any possible corrosion.

Absolutely. Here's some information to help you decide further. The BB1 is built on a different frame platform than the other Lews models. The worm gear is further from the spool shaft. Ergonomics are still excellent for palming. The spool is larger for line capacity. This translates into holding the rate of line pick up when you make a long cast and have a lot of line off the spool. The BB1's cast control is very effective, centrifugal only but was designed with a sweet spot which is 3/8th to 3/4 ounce. When casting 1/2 ounce, it's a casting machine.

Now there is an option that would benefit you and that's the BB1 Pro. I have three. It's the same frame platform. The cast control system is completely different from the BB1. It's still centrifugal but uses a type of rocker arms instead of pins. The adjustments are made externally with a dial that is recessed so you don't feel it when palming. The system works extremely well and is very progressive. The spool is braid ready. The Pro is lighter, the result of alloy gears similar to a Revo Premier and a carbon fiber handle. It's the 95 power handle. The Pro has a broader weight range and handles lighter weights better. Ron at VS is extremely competitive and I would call him. It's your investment but the BB1 Pro would be more versatile and cover all you spectrum of weight

classes.
