Dropshot Idea I Got At Work Today.

So, DS and line twist is almost inevitable unless you're using VMC spinshots or the Gammy version of the spinshot. Has anyone tried threading the line straight through the eye of a hook of choice with a bobber stop ontop and under the hook.

My question would be, with the stop under the hook how would you get a successful hook set w/o there being a knot?

Wouldn't the bobber stop (assuming its the same kind I use) slide down on you? Interesting idea nonetheless.

Interesting indeed, my thought would be how solid of a hook set the bobber stop could withstand without moving. My thought would be that when a fish grabs the bait and you go to set the hook it moves...

Good point, I guess the hook would just slide down as soon as you tried to set it.

Barely beat me to it lol

Still an interesting concept, only if the bobber stop could be pegged solid somehow... Some sort of glue maybe?

Maybe some clear never slip bait tape?

Actually, the setup does work.   A guide in SC uses it and even has it posted on his YouTube channel.....I'll see if I can find it.

Definitely interested in how he does it. I've been mulling over possible iterations on how it could work. Physics, the hook set + bend of the line could produce enough of a stop to set the hook. But I still see it sliding down the line during the fight, and unless the weight at the bottom is fixed, the hook could technically work its way off the line....

The difference here is that the weight is fixed with a traditional knot but the advantages are:

1. You can vary the height of the drop shot hook without having to retie.

2. The hook has a free movement on the line and can add to the action of the lure.

Just fish a double drop shot and be done with it. Or if you feel real lucky fish a 3 hook DS.and use the VMC spin shot hooks. You can cover alot more water. i have fished the double alot the past 2 years and it works great. This year I am going with 3 hook DS.
