Proper Air-Compressor

Featured Replies

I was wondering if this air compressor would suffice for painting Crankbaits. I don't really know much about air compressors in general, or what is required to paint cranks.

About all I know is that it is a Jetstream, I didn't have a whole lot of time to look it over real well.

Depending on the type of spray gun you're using it will work. I like to use a very small bottom feed gun designed for cans of compressed air (which gets very expensive very quickly). However, I've seen guys rig those pancake compressors to accommodate that type of gun too.

Youll be fine, no way an airbrush is going to use that much. Painting with air is rated in what the gun needs, not the size of the tank. A gun that uses say 13 cfm will need a compressor that can at least produce that or it will cycle more than usual.

I painted my trailer last year with a 5gal 6cfm dewalt construction grade compressor.

Any air compressor will work (that one looks noisy though!) I use one that was designed for automotive pneumatic tools (also very noisy.) I use the compressor to fill a portable external tank so that I don't have to run the compressor at night, which is when I do the bulk of my painting. I would recommend getting a good external tank, a moisture filter and a good pressure gauge/valve. That way you never have to connect the airbrush directly to the compressor.

My 11 gallon tank will hold enough air to paint about 5-10 lures, if not more. If I knew more when I bought the tank, I would have opted for a 20 gallon size.
