Walleye Fishermen Step Inside

I just took up walleye fishing last year. There's a section of the Wisconsin river I have been fishing where I have caught big number of small fish in depths up to 20ft, and small numbers of larger fish in the 20-30fow range. 3/8 leadheads and Gulp 3" minnows have been the bait of choice so far. I found baitfish in the 6"-8" range in the guts of the larger fish, and I think I can have a better chance of catching them if I can get a larger presentation in front of them at the 30' and deeper depths. I'm marking fish in up to 50fow. Have not marked any bait as of yet. We are fishing vertically, no trolling. I'm looking for suggestions on how to accomplish this. I tried soft swimbaits unsuccessfully. I was letting them sink to the bottom and snapping them up. A buddy of mine suggested using wolf river rigs with rapalas attached to them and using the TM and the current to keep the bait horizontal. I was thinking about dropshotting flukes, and maybe dropping spoons to the bottom and snapping them up. I'd like to stay with some cheaper baits because there are quite a few snags on uneven ledges in some places. Fishing pressure is light, but pleasure boat traffic can get busy. I've caught walleye up to 20", but I know there are trophies swimming around. Suggestions?
