Flick Shake Rod

Featured Replies

What action, length and taper would you want in a spinning rod for fishing flick shakes? What size line would you use? What other techniques would you fish on this setup? By the way I'm talking about 3/32 and 1/8 oz heads.

Action and taper are the same thing. I would go with a 7'MF with 10-15lb braid and a 10-12lb fluoro leader. You could fish almost any spinning rod technique on this setup since a medium is very versatile. You could use dropshots, shakey heads, t-rigs, etc.

for that light of a bait, i would throw it on a ML or L spinning rod, probably an expensive one so i can feel the bottom better

I use my DX 742sf for this. I have 20# braid and usually tie a 8# FC leader on. I also use this set up for drop shots, shakey heads, and wacky rigs.

I fish flick shakes a lot....more than a few dollars have been put in my pocket on the local tournament scene because of it. But my gear is junk, so you don't want a recomendation from me.

If you are fishing the flick shake with senko type worms + the 1/8 or 1/32 oz, that is still pretty darn heavy. I think I read somewhere that a 5" senko weighs 3/8..

6'8''-7' MF, half spool with 20lb braid and rest with 8lb fluoro

I have 2 rods that i throw them on, the first is a 6' ML/F St. croix Premier, the other is a 7' ML/F Triumph. i use 10 lb braid with a 8-10# 20' FC leader...

yeah, wow i totally misread that, i though he said the total weight will be 1/8-1/32oz.

But yes a MF rod will work excellent

I use pretty much the same thing everyone else has already stated I personally use a 6'8" MF for all my wacky/ flick shake presentations.
