when i drop shot , i use a small wide gap hook . i get 3 times better hook ups than by nose hooking !! so try a wide gap hook just big enough to provide clearance for the bait and you will be good to go . just don't put too big of hook on it that it impedes the action  :)

That's definitely a Jacks Worm  from Case Plastics, one of the all-time best river smallmouth baits. Rig that baby on a jighead and add a little life.

Looks like a drop shot worm to me.

Have you tried a drop shot rig?

With the "nose" hook?

If not, give it a whack.  :)

most stores that have a decent selection of fishing stuff will probably have them.

Most stores with a good fishing selection should have them. If not, I wouldn't worry about it. I've used split shots or whatever random weight I can find plenty of times.

Most dropshot weights I've seen only have two things going for them: a swivel to reduce line twist, and a clip you slide the line through so it will pull off easy in case of a snag. You could tie a swivel on if you're worried about line twist--in the end it's just weight at the end of the line.
