Marine Oil

Featured Replies

I have a 96 Mariner 150 HP EFI.  I have been running Mercury synthetic oil for the last 2 seasons.  The cheapest I have found this oil is $27 per gallon.

Would it be a problem to switch to a different brand?

What do you guys recommend?

Thanks

No as long as one isn't synthetic.

You think thats bad Evinrude synthetic  is 39 a gallon.

I have a 96 Nitro with 75 Merc and been using Pennzoil semi-synth since new and not an issue that I kow of.

I run AMSOIL and buy oil often enough to join their preferred customer list and to get special pricing works out to about $23 for Injector Synthetic after shipping and fees

27 a gal isn't bad. If you like it stick with it unless you find another leading synthetic oil cheaper. I'm running amsoil synthetic HP and I pay around 33.00 per gal.

I'm running a 2003 Mercury 150 EFI.  When I got my boat I was given two gal. of [Mercury] Quick Silver Premium Plus 2-Cycle Outboard oil.

I was told to only run this oil and that's what I've done; each marine mechanic I've been to agrees.  My local marine mechanic showed me a piston from an engine that ran cheep oil for just one season, it was not pretty.  I'm sure there are other brands just as good out there, but I'm not going to experiment with my engine.

Problem is where to buy it; at marine parts dealers and large outdoor stores I can pay $40.00 a gal. easy.  At Walmart I found the same thing for $29.00 in their fishing department, but they can't keep it in stock; I wonder why?

So shop around, you may find your oil cheaper, even on line.

Reuse the bottle and have it filled at a marina or dealership from their bulk supply. The price you ate getting though as is...is pretty good in all honesty.

where are you getting Merc synthetic for 28 a gallon?

I don't think my walmart sells quicksilver synthethic that cheap, so you are getting a good price.

I think dom-oil online might get it that cheap, so check them out.

all that said..... run what your motor is used to, don't switch.... you want $28 a gallon,or $3000 in a new head ?

Yes, they carry it, look in the fishing section on a lower shelf where they have the boat hardware.  They also have it in the auto section with the other 1 gal. oil containers.

As I stated above the Quick Silver Premium Plus 2-Cycle Outboard oil at Walmart for $29.00 is the exact same product that I find elsewhere for $40.00+, part number and all.

Traveler I know they carry it, because that's where I bought it....... what I was saying is I don't think they(wally world) sells it that cheap($28/gal)

I THINK I paid over 30/gal at walmart for quicksilver synthetic

You may be right, I think the Synthetic is more than the Premium Plus that I buy.

It's still a lot cheaper than other places I've dealt with.
