Oil On The Waters Surface.

Ok I fish from shore down stream from a popular boating lake here. On busy weekends I notice by Monday morning I have oil on the waters surface were its man made dam is. It's a light film about Three feet at the shoreline. Since I'm at the river that runs off this lake I think it's from the two stroke motors.

My fishing buddies thought it was from my scents. I'd have to drum five gallons to make this oil film.

Too bad everything runs down stream and probably ends up in someone's ground water.

The majority of the oil from 2 stroke OB gets burned along with the gasoline it's mixed with, unless someone is spilling oil into the water. You are more than likely seeing seepage from on their source.

I'm with Tom.  Sounds more like another source for that type of consistent happenings.  Perhaps worth the effort to point this out to your local Environmental Quality folks.  It's either that or a trip upstream to where the oil slick ends.

In any two stroke piece of equipment I own I use only the manufacturers oil and mix it to there specs so it gets burned up properly. I wonder how many follow the manufacturers specs.

I run two strokes too. We have a Briggs & Stratton 5hp outboard four stroke and love it too.

It could be jet fuel, mostly dumped fuel is supposed to evaporate, but I've fished isolated ponds that have been completely 'sheened-over' with some sort of oil more than a few times.

Hey it's right near a small jet airport. It's in the take off path?

I used to have a '63 Evinrude 40hp motor on my first boat and the marina told me those old motors are highly inefficient spitting out nearly 40% of the fuel unburned through the exhaust.   I used to have an oil slick around me if I idled in one spot for any length of time.      I suspect newer ones are better though.    lol
