Jig Head Vs Worm Hook With Bullet Weight

Featured Replies

I'm sure this has been asked numerous times but I didn't know how to word it to find it. But I am trying to get better with plastics and I have noticed their is jig head or hooks with weight built into them and then there is the worm hooks that you can add a sliding worm bullet weight to. Which do you prefer or are they used for different presentations?

Different presentations. When I think of "heads" I think of shakey heads and skirted/unskirted jigs.

You have your weighted hooks which could be used for swimbaits, or flukes, etc. and then you have your bullet weights for Texas rigs.

I use an offset hook with the bullet weight pegged, which some people call a Florida rig or a Texas ririgged weightless, both skin hooked. These are what I am most comfortable with when it comes to worm fishing in general. There's all kinds of different presentations when it comes to plastics, each involving different types of terminal tackle and plastics.

I have used the hooks with the worm weight you are talking about and seemed to get hung more often than with a regular worm weight either loose or pegged with bobber stop.

Personally I don´t like them, the weight and hook size combinations available seldomly match what I want, I prefer to have both things separated so I can choose which one I need and in case I want them together it´s real easy to peg the sinker. As for jigheads it´s the same so I pour my own, that way I have the weight and hook size combination I want
