Perch Lures

Featured Replies

What is your guys opinion on the best lures for perch. Also what color works best for you.

maybe try posting in the "other species" forum. you might get some better answers there. I would reccomend using a 16th oz jighead with a small 1-3" plastic or piece of an earthworm, just jigging it on the bottom.

Inline spinners like a mepps XD 3 in silver white tail. While using it for bass a perch always hits it.

If I were targeting them I'd use grubs on jigheads or crankbaits. However, based on the perch I've caught while fishing for bass, they will take most types of artificials.

I have not found a better way to catch perch, or ANY panfish for that manner than a down sized drop shot rig. #8 spinshot hook, 1/4 oz sinker, and a 1" gulp minnow. I have had days where I have caught them everytime I drop it in the water for hours on end......provided your on fish.

Gulp and powerbait panfish baits are awefully good as mentioned, small 1" twister tails, beetle spins, 1" tubes, micro craws, floating trout worms, really any small baits like a helgramite, dragonfly, powerbait jars of maggots, worms, but I used to use small acme Kastmaster spoons, Road Runners, Crappie maribau jigs, and I would agree...Use either a drop shot or split shot rig and look for soft baits by Mister Twister, Southern Hot Grubs, SLider GRubs by Charlie Brewer, but best bet is a Modified Alabama rig....

also called a Sabiki Rig with 6 hooks that you just drop to the bottom, wait, and all nymphs, or fake shrimp are probably most popular for panfish in micro size, glow beads, but I would add a piece of gulp on each hook and it is like pork as far as durability......sabiki rigs are awesome for catching bait in saltwater, and are dynamite for panfish as well. you can buy nice ones for $3.00 and some for .99, just get a pack of lindy walking sinkers or any 1/4-1/2 oz bell sinker and you are good to go.

Hope that helps, you will catch every type of fish in the lake from Trout to perch, catfish, shiners, bass, and on and on....Don't try and save money by purchasing the fake looking earthworms from China that say scented and are like $5.00 for 300, they are useless compared to Gulp, Trigger X, Panfish assassin, lindy, and I would get a nice box of plastics and little spinners, jigs etc.
