Ugly Sticks For The Grandkids??

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Thanks in advance for your input and hopefully minimal amounts of ridicule. Thinking about starting the young-uns off in the hobby and was wonder how much damage I'll do to their abilities buy starting them off with the $30 ugly stick combos....10 and 12 yrs old. Are they that bad? I know they are supposed to be indestructible....but they haven't met these two. Again thanks.

If they're clumsy or destructive, ugly stiks are a good bet. If you want a good graphite rod that's a little lighter, look at the Ambition rods from ***. The 5' Medium are really nice rods for $30.

Like Tywithay said, if they are destructive, go with the ugly stick.  I have the 4'8" UL and have caught many many many fish on a 2" Chartreuse grub.  Not the best sensitivity, but it will catch fish

Yea... Go with you're choice on ugly sticks....

Maybe they work up to a better rod and reel

Later... But at that age? Yea... Go Ugly!!
