just put some 65lb mccoys braid on my rod and went fishing and im noticing where the braid goes thro the guide into the reel theres small pieces of braid everywhere. like its slowly fraying off or something. checked my rod guides theyre fine. my line guide on the reel seems fine. no sharp edges or anything. is this typical for freshly spooled braid?

its also lost a TON of color. after 30 mins of fishing. my line is nearly white

As far as the color, I know braid will dull after use but it won't affect strength. It's the line getting "broken in" sort of. But the fraying, not a clue....

Wow man. Like I said....get some performance braid or 832 ghost if you don't want color bleed. Neither will fray.

To stop the fraying, I recommend using heat to fuse/cauterize the strands.  I have a Berkley Hotwire Line Cutter, designed especially for that purpose, that I use and no more fraying.  It's $10 at Academy.  It uses two AAA batteries and works great. 

No, it is not "typical for freshly spooled braid"

If you are convinced that your equipment is not at fault in anyway, I'd take it off, toss it, and start over.

You left me scratching my head on your braid issue. If you tested your equipment and noticed that no guides were cracked or inserts missing, and your reel was also working properly. Then we know its not that. Fading occurs but not that fast. Strands being caked up is also a new one for me. I have never used Mccoy's braid, maybe there is something wrong with the batch you have. Buy another spool if you really like that braid, or try another braid and see if the issue continues. If it does, then you missed something in your equipment check. Good luck. 

i ordered some sunline fx. if that braid doesnt do it for me ill just use powerpro.

The color goes quickly so I wouldnt be worried about that.. maybe put a fluoro leader on it if you are worried about visibility.

All had fraying as you mentioned only on the portions of the line which contact the rings at cast.

Essentially based on my experience its fraying because of casting.

I did not change up my line this season and only cut off the first 8 feet or so to the portion which did not have fraying and back to business.. no breakoffs yet this season.

ive got pp on one rod for 2yrs now and its barely lost its color and didnt hav the issue of the pieces of braid flaking off in my reel. i just wanted to try somethin that was a little less noisy and smoother. the mccoys casts great but these other issues i cant handle.

Sounds like I'll be avoiding mccoys. I'm pretty happy with my suffix 832 anyways.
