Soft Plastic Frog Help

Featured Replies

Hey guy i was wondering how  y'all fish y'alls soft plastic frogs, and what kind of tackle do y'all fish it on?

I fish my soft frogs with a 5/0 Gami. I buzz it right along the surface around any sort of cover that I may see. I throw this rig on a 7ft M/H Xfast Avid, using a Lews Tournament MG, on 40lb Power Pro braid.

I also use a 5/0 hook no weight. I fish it on a Tatula 6'10" mh fast tip with 40# spiderwire ultracast.

I have used the Ragetail Toad and Stanley Ribbit and never caught anything on the Stanley Ribbet but caught a majority of my bass on the Ragetail Toad. I will be trying some Zman Hard Leg frogs this year to because of their advertised durability.

This is the hook style I use. I find that you don't tear out of the head nearly as much with this. I use 30-35# Power Pro. I also use a few Spro's, Scumfrogs, and others with less success.

I fish a berkley kicker frog with a 4/0 EWG hook with a 1/4 - 3/8oz weight on 20-40lb braid. Sometimes I let it fall to the . ttom and hop it low along the bottom (4-8 ft of water) and sometimes I will put it on my flippin stick and hop it along the surface. And sometimes I try to keep it in the middle of the water column and let it fall slowly with a lighter weight.

Very versatile little bait. I like hollow body frogs too but I think everyone should have themselves some soft plastic frogs

I use the rage shads, not really a frog but it's the same concept. A 4/0 or 5/0 EWG hook, with 12 - 14 pound mono around sparse cover, and 50 - 65 pound braid through slop. I prefer a MH glass or composite rod for these soft buzzbaits.

I only fish two "Toad" style lures, first and my favorite is the Gambler Cane Toad and second is the Rage Toad. I fish them on the same set up I use for my hollow body frogs which is a Powell Max 735, tuned Citica E, spooled with 50 or 65# braid. The only hook I use is the Owner Twist Lock.
