So I put a set in.. Iam old school but thought I would try them.... Now I wonder if I should drop

Some diawa red oil in them or run them dry?

What say you? They are noisy!

I put a small drop of Alchemy oil on mine. The noise didn't bother me a whole lot, just felt like they needed a drop of oil. It did quiet them down some as a bonus.

I run recommend running them open and dry. Oiling them to slow them down voids any gain you'd have gotten over ABEC 5s. I don't find them distractingly loud but to each his own.

all up to you, like DVT said, run em dry or they are just a waste of money, and all reels I serviced loose their shields. I have installed ceramics on mine and went back to SS I personally don't think the noise is worth the barely noticeable gain. If you run them wet there is no gain over quality Stainless Steel bearings properly lubed, your choice but if you want quiet and smooth, well lubed stainless is the way to go! :thumbsup1:

I installed a few sets of Boca Orange seals and could not stand how loud they were. Very unhealthy noise.. So I oiled them. Also I swear the seals rub.. Normal bearing shields aren't that big of hassle. Next upgrade I buy will have normal shields (if they aren't odd Hedgehog Studio things). Despite being oiled and having a seal or two that rub they do work noticeably better than the stock bearings.

I just remove the shields and alleviate that issue. They have no real benefit to keeping them on if you're fishing freshwater.

Yep, I am not impressed... Very loud sounds like

The reels coming apart! Oh well I guess I knew

Better... Any how... I am going to drop some Diawa red oil in and then decide.. Mine have stainless shields/ nylon cages..I did notice pitching 1/4 oz with only 1 brake on (51e) was

Done with less effort... Next time it will just be a abec5 stainless !
