Have A Oil Hub Question

Featured Replies

hey guys i recently purchased a 07 stratos 150 etec and i was concerned get it maintenance right away. do it my self project before a 400 mile trip!  i took off the wheels and saw oil hubs and i know they are suppose to be maintenance free but was wondering if i should just change the oil in the hubs? not taking anything apart but just take the allen head screw out and drain and refill. the only reason im considering doin this just because the hub seemed hot or more then warm in my opinion! what do you think its 7 years old and no maintenance history to go off of? thanks for any emput guys

I believe you have the following axles:

according to the manufacture its every 20K miles or if the oil is milky.

If you saw oil then most likely you have a bad seal NOT GOOD. I have Cool Hubs on my Ranger trailer and have only changed the oil out twice in 11 years.

Use 50 weight, and don't fill it up all the way.  Fill 1/2 - to 2/3- full.  No more than that.

As for the heat, it could be fine.  The key is to see if the plastic cap is pushed out when it's hot, and back in when it's cooled off.  That's an indication that it's too hot.

If it is too hot, then take in to a mechanic.  The problem could be bearings, could be brakes, could be any combination of the two.
