How To Catch Wild Shiners In Southwest Florida?

Featured Replies

Hey. Im fairly new to the whole shiner thing and i would like to know hoe to catch them consistently. I have a 5" net. I live on a canal that I know they swim in but the water has next to noe visiblity. I try chumming with bread balls but I dont really know what Im doing. Id like to know about how many slices of bread should i throw and how long do I wait after i chum to throw my net? Thanks a ton

Use oatmeal. Non flavored of course and wait about an hour.

Does the +1 mean I get an invite to fish with you? Lol

Let me know the day and time and I'll even provide a great home cooked meal. Lol

Thanks much. But when chumming with the oatmeal do you just throw out one whole pack and it sinks and you wait? Or is that wrong lol?

BBD... I couldn't have said it any better myself. It's not rocket science. Lol

If your a newbie to the sport don't feel as if any question is stupid. Although someone's you need to simplify things instead of overthinking them.

Haha. That's true. And I'm in North Port. It's about an hour from Tampa and 30-45 minutes from Boca Grande.

Hey guys. I just got some oatmel to use. Do u suggest wetting the oatmel to let it sink in clumps or leaving it dry and letting it float? Thanks

Dry. That's why you leave it for about an hour. They will eat at it both on top of the water and as it starts to sink.

Can probably try putting it in some kind if mesh bag with a rock in it to sink it where you wanna throw your cast net.
