Have started using wacky worms/rigs.

Never have before, but the first time I tried them in a local Pond, rsults were great.

 

I have a short piece of that PVC electrical shrink tubing over the middle section of the worm, as suggested.  Good idea.

 

a. do you folks actually heat the tubing to shrink it on the worm Very tightly, or just leave it alone and a bit looseloose ?

 

b. for either way, do you put the hook thru the exact center of the worm's diameter, or just try to put the hook Only thru the tubing at the very

top of the worm (no hook thru any portion of the worm itself)

There is no real need to shrink the tubing unless you want to hook only the tubing. If you're going through the worm as well everything will stay in place without slipping.

I go through the tubing and worm at about the mid point.

I insert the hook into the tubing and then through the body of the lure. The hook penetrates both no matter if the hook is perpendicular or parallel with the lure.

Wayne thanks for sharing!  I love wacky rig fishing!  I always catch fish on a wacky rig no matter what!

Never used any wrap on them, but I'm an avid user of the o-wacky o-rings, they seem to work wonders. 

Great idea. Never heard of that before. Does it work any better than o-rings?

TWO WORDS!  DUCT TAPE!  jk- I use heat shrink, hit em with the heat gun and stab em perpendicular through the worm.  The bass seem just to sling em off way to easy without the shrink and I dont like the action with the o-ring.  But thats just my opinion, several of the really good anglers here use the o-ring with success, maybe when the bite stops I'll try the o-ring, but until then...

I have been promoting that rigging since developing it, for about 10 years and is known world-wide.

The way I do the Trick and Finesse worms has the most following.

 

For a stick bait, YES it works better than a O-ring.

 

With an O-ring, the hook is parallel with the Senko. With it being parallel, it is smaller than the Senko size bent. That causes missed hooksets.

Using the heat shrink tubing, the hook is perpendicular to the Senko and the Senko's bulk does not interfere with hooksets.

 

I have also described how I make my own weedguard hooks using Gamakatsu 4/0 Octopus hooks-like in the picture.. Those hooks are bass size and are strong enough to handle the biggest bass in the heaviest cover.

I have posted that same picture on this site several times when wacky rigging is the topic.

A package is about $2 at Lowes.

Three 4" pieces of the 3/8" for Senkos and six 4" pieces of the 1/4" for Trick and finesse worms.

Each piece you use can be reused many, many times until it gets too many holes in it to stay together.

 

Yes the 1/8" is used to make the hook shank spikes. That size is what I use to attach the braided stainless steel weedguard on the Senko hooks.
