Cartopping Rods?

Featured Replies

Has anyone here ever cartopped their rods? In a few weeks I'm going on a trip during which I plan to do lots of fishing, but with the amount of stuff I'll be bringing and the fact that I'll be travelling with my wife and two dogs, I won't be able to fit my one piece rods in the car. I have a Plano airliner rod tube and was planning on putting the rods in there and having them ride on the roof rack next to the kayaks. Was just wondering if anyone had ever done this before and how it worked out, or if there's a reason this is a terrible idea that I'm overlooking.

thanks,

Shane

I am very curious about this as well, as my situation is darn near identical...going on a week long trip next month.

I plan on purchasing a bazooka rod holder, putting stick jackets on all rods, wrapping the tips with bubble wrap, and strapping the container to the luggage carrier.

If you already have an airline tube, i cannot imagine why it wouldn't work. Alternatively, PVC is a cheaper but still effective alternative. Two things to consider though

Make sure the tube is very securely fastened to the rod rack

If you'll be leaving the tube on the car unattended, it's worth considering how you'll secure the tube to stay locked, as well as secured to the car
