Rapala Dt Saves The Day...again

Featured Replies

So Wednesday was my first day on the lake this year. I'm kinda rusty so getting back into it is gonna take a few trips.Hadnt got bit all day. Caught a small Bass on a Rapala UL a few hours into my trip. Time passed without anything and I decided to give a Shad Patterned DT6 a try by some bluff walls. I whacked a Green Sunfish on my first cast and a Largemouth on the next cast. For some reason this particular bait in this exact color ALWAYS saves the day for me. I can't figure it out. I don't know if it's the color, the action or what but this isn't the first trip this has happened. I threw all sorts of things this day but this crank turned a lame day into something for me. Back to back hook ups are welcome anyday...especially on my first day out. There isn't even a Shad population in this lake so I don't know what's up with that

Maybe you should give that DT6 the starting job instead of being a late pull from the bullpen!

I' ve said it before, will say it again and will keeping saying it until people get it: " matching the hatch " is the greatest nonsense ever, for more than 3 decades I've been catching bass with shad imitating baits where there's no shad, with trout ( rainbow, brook, brown ) imitating baits where there's no trout, with perch imitating where there's no perch and so on, ad infinitum and beyond.

I think match the hatch was meant to apply to fly fishing.

Rapala DT-6's are amazing!! I love using them when conditions get tough, there are the normal DT-6's and then there are the Mike Icoenelli Custom ink DT series. Those are absolutely my favorite. They are lighter colors. But for some reason when conditions get tough, I tie one on and bam! So sometimes the bright DT's have their place and then there are the "faded" DT's that seem to save my butt when conditions are crappy. If you havent seen them check them out on tackle warehouse.com.

Dont over look the dt4 ... I have been able to go back behind others and wipe up what they left behind .
