Anybody tried either of the G. Loomis frog rods? How do they stack up against something like a dobyns 735/736?

both are good companies and i have rods from both, I prefer G.Loomis. As far as frog goes, I use a long rod with a lot of backbone, I basically use my flippin and pitchin rod as my frog rod as well. Both companies make good rods.

I couldn't agree more. It's almost as if they didn't put any research and development time in at all with these rods. I couldn't believe how heavy they were the first time I actually picked one up.

Overpriced and underperforming. Seems to fit the reputation just fine.

I had the old G Loomis Frog Rod (G Loomis FGR 863), which was by far the worst rod in G Loomis history.  I did end up purchasing the new heavy powered G Loomis Frog Rod (G Loomis TWFR 935C) and this is a much much better stick.  This is a great rod for fishing heavy slop, but as others have said, it still is a little on the heavy side and trying to work baits all day can get tiring.  I recently purchased a G Loomis NRX 916C UBR and this thing has some serious potential as a Frog Rod (preliminary results are good).  I am going to give it a little bit of a work out with Frogs this summer to see how it does.

 

As far as the Dobyns rod goes, I have never used either one, so unfortunately, I can't really compare the G Loomis to those.  

I've always been a Loomis fan - I have their frog rod - it isn't my favorite - the daiwa l&t suits me much better - I can walk a punker with the Loomis when I have the strength.

What type of cover are you fishing your frog in?
